From Word to JATS XML

Seven steps to prepare an article and OJS galley.

1. Prepare your Word manuscript

Use a final DOCX with consistent section headings, Word tables and original images with clear captions.

2. Complete the journal profile and template

Enter the journal name, ISSNs, publisher, language and license in My journals. Configure abstract markers, headings and citation style in Journal templates.

3. Upload DOCX and review metadata

Select a journal and template in New conversion. Check the title, authors, affiliations, DOI and dates in the editor against the source manuscript.

4. Check citation links

Review author–year or numeric matches. Enter exact citation phrases for ambiguous matches, or correct them in the XML editor. Do not invent missing references.

5. Review tables and figures

Check cell data, merged cells, captions and figure order. Upload replacement images when needed and test links in the preview.

6. Validate and export

Save the article to validate against the official JATS 1.3 schema. Export the ZIP immediately, or review and correct findings as needed; no review checkbox is required.

7. Test the OJS galley

Upload article.xml as an XML galley with a compatible JATS viewer. Add images as dependent files and match asset paths. Check content, navigation and panels in the installed viewer.

This package supports technical submission readiness but does not guarantee acceptance or indexing by DOAJ, EBSCO/CINAHL, Web of Science, or Scopus.
